Jim Perfect is indeed perfect: perfect body, perfect hookups, perfect body hair distribution, and a perfectly monetized social media and OnlyFans presence. He’s the hottest guy in Paris, with a string of adoring fans begging just for a scrap of his attention. One of those adoring fans is Lucien, a tiny twink with a shrine to Jim in his bedroom closet, hidden away from the ever-watchful eyes of his conservative politician mother. When Jim is struck with heterotosis, the mysterious virus turning queer people all over France straight, he loses all his Instagram followers and is forced to team up with Lucien in an odyssey through gay Paris to find the cure.

Nicolas Athane and Marco Nguyen’s animated satire skewers everyone from the gym gay who won’t get off his phone at the weight rack to the purist leather daddy who won’t take "no" for an answer. A world premiere in Cannes’ Midnighter section earlier this year, JIM QUEEN gleefully recreates queer male subcultures with a cheeky wink and a deep affection. Like a drag queen lovingly reading you for filth, this comedy can only be so mean to its subjects because it knows and loves them so thoroughly.

The past couple of years have been really rough. In America and across the globe, we’ve witnessed a rising tide of far-right fascism sweep through politics and into our lives. While certainly not new, it has been turbocharged recently, and our queer family has been scapegoated and attacked on all sides. JIM QUEEN, with all its silliness, is a movie about the need for our community to come together to fight back against the oppression and the erasure of our queerness. Conservative fascism is here, and we will rise up to meet it with fetish singlets and rubber pups. (AUSTIN KING)
